The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) is sponsoring a six hour workshop during which students will create their own blog sites. Special emphasis related to how the blog sites can be used for internet marketing of a business will be included.

The workshop will be held on January 13 and January 20, 2009 from 1-4 pm each day. The cost of the workshop is only $60.

The workshop is divided into two three hour sessions and each session includes computer lab time.

Workshop Information:

Learn the ins and outs of running your own blog. We’ll show you how to set up and administer your blogspace using Wordpress. We’ll teach you how to market your blog so that more people than just your friends and family are paying attention. We’ll teach you the lingo so you’ll understand RSS, pings and trackbacks. We’ll also spend time exploring various plugins for photo galleries, tag libraries and other useful ways to extend your Wordpress installation.

Workshop Description: Wordpress is an open-source (free) software system that provides unparalleled customization and functionality in developing a blog site. Small businesses may consider a blog-based site as their primary website or a blog can be free online additional exposure. Blogs may be easily updated by site owners with no knowledge of website design and visitors can interact with the site. Wordpress has numerous exciting plug ins that add functionality and the whole system is very search engine-friendly. Students in this course will leave with their own blog site set up and ready to go. Three hours of classroom instruction and three hours of guided computer lab time.
