Part VII - Carbon Trading Is A Bust
Wired Magazine calls carbon trading the equivalent of subprime mortgages.
And we all know how well that has worked out. All the mechanisms set up in the Kyoto Protocol, including carbon trading, will slow global warming by about 6.5 days. The idea that industrializing countries like India and China needed the market to inspire them to greener practices sells short the idea that we are all in this together. On top of that, it produced a new system of trading that might just produce enough pollutants in photocopies alone to counter all the good it does.

About the series: Wired On The Environment
A few issues ago, Wired Magazine, the monthly Bible of forward-thinking geeks like me, brazenly sought to debunk some of the strongest-held tenets of environmentalism. Embracing that what matters most is cutting carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas emissions is the most important weapon to save the environment, Wired offered several viewpoints that seem to fly in the face of “popular environmentalism.” This series of ten mini-articles shares those thoughts and gives you a chance to respond.

Their building is the only privately-held LEED certified building in Oregon City and their entire operation, from Ink to Paper is green.
