Learn how to use Google’s sponsored links to increase targeted traffic to your website. Don’t bother with people who want you to pay them to manage your sponsored link advertising – learn how to do it yourself! This workshop includes training on Google’s free local results, too. Students who want to get the most out of the workshop should come ready to budget at least $50 toward advertising on Google, although all students are welcome.

Workshop Description: Google Adwords is Google’s pay-per-click advertising system. Adwords participants can place paid ads on Google search results and on the Google Network of content sites. Participants pay Google for each click on the ads. Google Adwords can be an excellent way to actively market a website on the internet. This workshop includes 1.5 hours of classroom instruction and 1.5 hours of guided computer lab time. The lab time will offer students an opportunity to establish their own Google Adwords accounts, which may involve a small budget for advertising.

Student Learning Outcomes: By the end of the workshop, you will be able to…

  • Analyze opportunities for Adwords advertising and determine how effective it could be
  • Establish an Adwords account
  • Create campaigns, ad groups and effectively-written ads
  • Target ads to specific pages of websites
  • Effectively monitor and adjust an Adwords account

Text/Handouts Provided:

  • Keyword analysis instruction manual
  • Overview of Google Adwords with step-by-step instructions
  • Workbook with guided assignments for lab work
